The S55's character lives in the top half of the tach -- a twin-turbo 3.0-liter that builds boost like a freight train and revs like a naturally aspirated engine, right up to the 7,600 rpm limiter. The factory midpipe never lets that character out. Its unequal-length runners fire the two cylinder banks out of phase, which creates a drone band in the daily-drive range and a muted, gravelly note above 5,000 rpm where the S55 should be screaming.
